Four-day advocacy workshop on road safety held in Accra

Accra, July 21, GNA – Members of Road Safety Advocacy Consortium, led by the Ghana Bar Association, have attended a 4-day advocacy training workshop in Accra.

The workshop aims at equipping the four Agencies that form the consortium to play their roles to help bring sanity on the roads.

Thirty-five members from Ghana Passengers Association, Consumer Protection Agency, Institute of Engineers and Ghana Bar Association that form the consortium attended the workshop.

The workshop was organized by the Consortium and sponsored by BUSAC Fund, a business advocacy for the private sector with support from the Denmark, through the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), United States Agency for International Development and the European Union.

Madam Abena Otu of EDC Consultant Limited and Mr Gabriel Kofi Ayiglo from Elitrust Finecon Limited were the facilitators.

They took participants through topics including, Enabling Environment; The Role and Obligations of Government in Development/Regulations and Business Development; and The Role of the Private Sector in Improving the Environment.

Other topics treated were Problems identification, Planning an Advocacy Action, Monitoring and Evaluation, Record Keeping and Financial Management.

Madam Otu appealed to members of the Consortium to strategise to meet road safety goals and requirements to gain authority to enforce road regulations.

Mr Ayiglo appealed to the participants to train their colleagues who could not attend the workshop to understand the aims and objectives of the consortium.

He urged them to dialogue and to ensure regular contact with other private and public sectors to address issues of concern on the roads.
