Breman-Asikuma (C/R), April 6, GNA – Three out of four young men who destroyed instruments for funeral wake-keeping at Breman-Asantem near Breman-Asikuma have been sentenced to a total fine of 1,350,000 cedis or in default five months imprisonment. The fourth, Kwasi Owu, who is at large is to be arrested by bench warrant for causing bodily harm.
They were Kwadjo Nkromah, 20, mason; Kwaku Sarfo, 19, unemployed and Kwaku Fosu 18, unemployed all from Breman-Fosuansa near Breman-Asantem, all in Asikuma-Odoben Brakwa District. They pleaded guilty to three counts of conspiracy to commit crime, causing unlawful damage and causing bodily harm.
Prosecuting Chief Inspector Joseph A. Nadutey told the Breman-Asikuma magistrate court, presided over by Mr. Akwasi Asmah Asiedu that on March 6, 2005, all the four accused persons travelled from Breman-Fosuansa to Breman-Asantem nearby towns for wake-keeping of late Abusuapanyin Kwame Appiah.
The prosecutor said at about 2130 hrs. the music for the wake-keeping came to and end but the four men were not happy with the stoppage. They therefore caused trouble and destroyed properties estimated at 895,000, cedis which included roofing sheets, plastic chairs, fluorescent bulbs, one amplifier deck and a wooden structure. The prosecutor said Kwadjo Nkromah and Kwasi Owu who face the charge of causing bodily harm will appear before the court on April 5, 2005.
Nkromah stabbed Ben Gyan Nkromah at the back with a knife concealed on him and also stabbed the fore-head of Adwoa Amoakowa, from the bereaved family.
Gyan Nkromah and Amoakowa were treated and discharged at Breman Asikuma Catholic Hospital.
