Forty-seven NDC members defect to NPP in Gomoa West

Gomoa Ankamu (C/R), Jan 14, GNA – Forty-seven Members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Gomoa West constituency, have defected to the New Patriotic Party.

The defectors, who are mainly members of the defunct National Mobilisation Programme (NMP), announced their defection at a fund raising harvest organised by the Gomoa West Constituency branch of the NPP at Gomoa Ankamu, in the Central Region.

Mr Kweku Atta Issah, Leader of the group flanked by Mrs Theresa Fatomah and Mr Kwame Seidu Saah, executives of the defunct MOBI Squad said that they decided to defect because they were disappointed in the performance of the MP for Gomoa West, Mrs Ama Benyiwa Doe and the NDC. He said the MP and NDC failed to ensure the socio-economic development of the area and commended the NPP government for its good work and programmes, which were in the right direction.

Mr Ben Adjei Afful, NPP Constituency Chairman, appealed to members of the party to remain united to win more supporters.

He asked them to intensify their campaign and to encourage qualified voters to register when the Voters Register was re-opened. Mr Afful urged citizens of the area residents outside the district to register to exercise their franchise in the 2004 election.

He called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to go ahead to create additional constituencies based on the 2000 population census and said another district should be created in the area since it had the resources and the population had increased.

Mr Afful advised the party members to bury their differences to ensure resounding victory in this year’s election.
