Forty-five people arrested for allegedly setting ablaze police vehicle

Kasoa (C/R) Aug. 16 GNA- About 45 persons had been arrested for their alleged involvement with a mob who set ablaze a police vehicle at Kasoa on Sunday.

The vehicle was alleged to have knocked down a middle aged-woman to death on the Kasoa-Winneba road but the driver was alleged to have failed to stop.

Mr Charles Adalong, Assistant Superintendent of Police In-charge of Kasoa District who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Kasoa on Monday, said 15 of those arrested were rounded off on Sunday and had been sent to the Police Headquarters.

He said the remaining thirty, who were arrested on Monday are in police custody and would be sent to the police headquarters for further investigations.

Mr. Adalong said on Sunday afternoon a police vehicle “accidentally knocked down and killed Madam Kate Ocran, 40, a resident of Kasoa in an attempt to cross the road.

He said immediately after that, some angry mob pushed the vehicle to a different location and set it ablaze.

He said the driver was rescued and sent to Accra.

He said the situation is now under control while investigations continue.
