A 32-year-old past student of the Department of Economics of the University of Ghana, Legon, Joel Acquah was arrested on Wednesday for stealing a taxi belonging to Mr. Isaac Nimo, a security guard at the university.
Speaking to GNA, the Crime Officer at the Legon District Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police Emmanuel Basintale said Acquah was arrested by the University’s security guards when he was driving through the University of Ghana Botanical Gardens.
He said the taxi was parked near the Institute of Adult Education and the suspect pushed a screw driver into the ignition, started the taxi and drove it to the Legon Botanical Gardens, attempting to escape.
The guards at the Botanical Gardens main gate tried to stop him but he sped-off and drove into a heap of sand on the road, got stuck and was arrested. Mr. Nimo, told the GNA that he was on night duty and had parked his taxi behind the Institute of Adult Education when Acquah stole it.
Acquah graduated in Economics in 2007 and taught for two years at the New Hybrid International School at Gbawe.
