Former Speaker of Consultative Assembly dies

Accra, April 30, GNA – President John Evans Atta Mills was on Friday informed of the death of Pe Rowland Ayagyitam, Speaker of the Consultative Assembly that drafted the current 1992 Constitution.

A 16-member family delegation, led by Mr Innocent Ayagyitam, Regent of Chiana in the Upper East Region, together with representation of the Kassena Royal Family, was at the Osu Castle, the seat government in Accra to inform the President of the death of the late Ayagyitam. The late Ayagyitam died in 2006.

President Mills in response said the late Ayagyitam, who was the Chianapio, needed no introduction in Ghana as he led a distinguished life. He described the late traditional ruler as good natured, who stamped his name in the sands of time.

President Mills gave an assurance that Government would assist to organize a befitting funeral for the late Chianapio.
