Former Regional Minister donates to Airborne Force Detachment

Bawku, Sept 14, GNA – Mr Mahami Salifu, a former Upper East Regional Minister, has reiterated the need for the military to collaborate with civil society to maintain law and order without undermining the country’s democratic dispensation. He said the role of the military to protect the sovereignty of the country should always serve as a guiding principle to resist adventurous people who infiltrate their ranks.

Mr Salifu said this when he presented a bull to the Airborne Force Detachment at Bawku on Wednesday.

He recounted events that necessitated the citing of the force at Bawku and said if it had not been deployed things would have gone out of control.

He commended the military for their tireless efforts in maintaining a stable environment for the progress of the area and said he was optimistic that they would not relent in their efforts. The Officer Commanding the Detachment Force, Lt Emmanuel Sosu, said the prevailing peace in the municipality should not be taken for granted and urged civil society to intensify its efforts to sustain the peace.

He said the spate of armed robberies should serve as a wake up call for the security services to curb the menace to give the people peace. The Bawku Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Abdul-Rahman Gumah, said construction works have began at Bazua for the military to have a permanent place to deploy quickly in the event of any emergency in the region.
