Former President returns home from Italy

Accra, July 25, GNA- Former President John Agyekum Kufuor returned home on Friday night, after a 10-day visit to Belligio, Italy, where he was formally inaugurated into office as the Global Ambassador of Hunger of the World Food Programme (WFP).

His new assignment comes in the wake of other appointments from world-renowned organisations, such as the World Bank, the Sullivan Foundation and the Alliance for Africa Foundation. A press statement issued by Mr Frank Agyekum, Press Secretary to the former President said the new role would enable Mr Kufuor to advocate on behalf of the world’s poorest and hungriest people. Together with a select group of celebrities, former President Kufuor, will help to underline the importance of fighting hunger on several fronts to facilitate investment in long term agricultural development of the WFP and emphasize the need to provide good nutrition for children in school.

During the inauguration, WFP Executive Director, Josette Sheeran, said: “Former President John Kufuor not only talks the talk but walks the walk,” and described Ghana as leader in nourishing its children. 25 July 09
