Former President Rawlings visits Afram Plains

Donkorkrom, June 25, GNA – Former President Jerry John Rawlings was given a rousing welcome to various communities he visited during his two-day tour of the Afram Plains District. He addressed National Democratic Congress (NDC) rallies at Ekye-Amanfrom; Kwasi Fante; Maame Krobo; Forifori; Tease; Samanhyia; Kwaekese; Bruben; Amankwaakrom and Donkorkrom.

Addressing the Donkokrom rally, Former President Rawlings said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) promised Ghanaians heaven during the 2000 electioneering campaign, but its policies and programmes had sent them to hell where they were being asked to pay high utility bills, high cost of living, increased school fees and where there was a high rate of unemployment, which he said had affected the living standards of the people. He criticised the NPP government for failing to continue to implement the numerous development projects initiated by the PNDC/NDC in the area to assist the people to tap the potentials of the area to eradicate poverty.

Former President Rawlings accused the NPP Government of using the nation’s resources to build their Party to the detriment of national development and urged the people to vote for the NDC in the forthcoming elections to ensure equitable distribution of the nation’s resources to move the country forward. He advised them to ensure effective monitoring of Election 2004 to avoid electoral malpractices and to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.
