Former NPA Boss Mustapha Abdul Hamid Dismisses OSP Corruption Case as “Useless”

Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Mustapha Abdul Hamid, has brushed off the corruption case filed against him by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), describing it as baseless and “useless.”

In a video that has circulated on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), shared by @SIKAOFFICIAL1, Dr. Hamid appeared calm and confident as he addressed reporters outside the Accra High Court, where he had accompanied New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi).

Speaking in Pidgin English, the former NPA boss said, “I came to support my friend Wontumi. As for my matter, it’s useless. There is nothing in it.”

Dr. Hamid is one of ten individuals facing charges from the OSP over alleged acts of misappropriation and extortion involving oil transporters and marketing companies.

The case also includes Jacob Kwamina Amuah, Wendy Newman, Albert Ankrah, Isaac Mensah, Bright Bediako-Mensah, Kwaku Aboagye Acquaah, and three companies — Propnest Limited, Kel Logistics Limited, and Kings Energy Limited.

According to the OSP, the accused persons are alleged to have extorted millions of cedis from oil sector players under various schemes. The case, which has attracted public attention, is still before the court for hearing.

Dr. Hamid, who served as Minister of Information and later as NPA CEO, insists that the allegations are politically motivated and lack substance.
