Former Nigerian President calls on Asantehene

The former Head of State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, has commended the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for pursuing what he called, “inspirational leadership,” full of hope and conviction needed to stimulate growth and development needs of Africa in the 21st century.

The former Nigerian President, who was accompanied by a fifteen-member delegation, made the remarks when he paid a courtesy call on Otumfuo at the Manhyia palace in Kumasi on Tuesday, August 12, 2014.

The Nigerian former ruler was accompanied by the former Governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Baba Musa Rime and one of the Nigerian Supreme court judges, Justice Mohammed Dottijo.

Receiving the delegation, the Asantehene described General Abubakar as a successful role model who selflessly served his country and Africa and still continues to provide direction through active interaction with civil society and players in the forefront of African Affairs.

He said Asanteman is grateful for his visit and would continue to call for total collaboration between Ghana and her sister countries including Nigeria.

The former Nigerian president was welcomed at the Kumasi Airport by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Samuel Sarpong, who led him to the Manhyia palace together with the Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Kojo Bonsu.

The Nigerian General is among other selected few personalities who are expected to receive Honorary Doctorate Degrees from the University of Winneba.

The former President, Jerry John Rawlings is one of Ghana’s former Presidents scheduled to receive a similar award together with General Abubakar.
