Former NDC members return to party

A donation made by Comrade Stephen Akwetey, a leading contender in the Greater Accra NDC Chairmanship race has propelled some former members of the ruling party into the NDC fold.

Ayawaso North members of the party had defected to join the opposition NPP in order to boot the ruling NDC out of power because their Member of Parliament (MP), Dr. Mustapha Ahmed, had consistently reneged on his promises made to opinion leaders and all and sundry in the constituency have rejoined the NDC after being talked to by the NDC firebrand.

Comrade Akwetey, pleading with the former members to return to the party requested that one’s behaviour should not push them from the party since the NDC was the only party that belongs to the ordinary people and that they should stand firm for the party.

According to him, they should scrutinize and choose leaders who have the constituency at heart and are familiar with the problems on the ground since not all leaders come into power for the good of society.

Stephen Akwetey posited that no one was greater than the party and that NDC is a home that shares in the plight of its supporters and tries to find solutions to their problems.

The gesture was important because the NDC needed to ensure that the promises they made were fulfilled.

He therefore donated 120 pieces of plastic chairs and hundred cedis to the opinion leaders to make sure they return to the party, which he described as home to everyone.

In another development, Comrade Akwetey donated 15 sewing machines together with 120 pieces of cloth to an NDC group known as Mahama Ladies, to develop the skills of young ladies so as to build them up for the job market.

The group that has over 700 members was targeted due to the diverse nature of it. Mahama Ladies is made up of hairdressers, dressmakers, traders and people from all walks of life.

The former Nungua Krowor Constituency Chairman of the NDC also urged all other aspirants not to denigrate each other since the election was only a means of strengthening the internal democratic culture of the party.

Leader and founder of Mahama Ladies, Rabiu Mohammed popularly known as Italy, showed appreciation to the gesture done them, saying that the group has had a long standing relationship with Hon. Stephen Akwetey who in turn has helped them in diverse ways.

“We are not surprised at the kind gesture of Hon. Stephen Akwetey because he has been related to the group since 2011. He has shown that he is going to be a leader who will care for his followers when elected into power,” Italy underscored.
