Former member of Council of State passes on

Accra, May 4, GNA – Mrs Mercy Owusu-Nimoh, a member of the Second Council of State of the Fourth Republic of Ghana (1997-2000), has passed on to glory.

The sad event occurred on February 15, 2011 and would be buried at her hometown, Kade, in the Kwaebibrem District of the Eastern Region on Saturday, May 7, 2011.

A statement signed by Mr Sam Akurang Wiafe, Director of Public Affairs at the Council of State in Accra on Wednesday, said a family delegation informed the Council on Tuesday, May 3.

It said the delegation accompanied by the Eastern Regional Minister, D= r Kwasi Akyem Apea-Kubi and Chief of Kade, Osabarima Agyare Tenadu II, calle= d on the Chairman of the Council of State, Professor Kofi Awoonor, who represented the President, to formally inform him about her demise. Prof. Awoonor in a tribute referred to the late Mrs Owusu-Nimoh as a perceptive, hard-working and astute individual whose contribution to the Council’s work was well documented.

He noted that her death was most regrettable and a great loss to the Council, the people of Kwaebibrem District and the Eastern Region. Present were Reverend Dr Nii Amoo Darku and Osabarima Owusu-Gyamadu III, both members of the Council, Mr Emmanuel Osae, Kwaebibrem District Chief Executive and Mr Julius Debrah, Eastern Regional Chairman of National Democratic Congress.
