Former Mayor appeals to the public for information on Ennin’s murderer

Kumasi, Feb 16, GNA – Nana Akwasi Agyemang, a former Mayor of Kumasi, has renewed appeals to the public not to hesitate to volunteer information that could lead to the arrest of suspects in the murder of Samuel Ennin.

The former Mayor’s plea has come at a time the police appear not to have made any major headway in arresting those suspected to be behind the death of the Ashanti Regional chairman of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA).

Mr Ennin was shot a week ago by gunmen in a bar at Pankrono, a suburb of Kumasi, where Mr Ennin and some friends were having an evening relaxation.

Nana Agyemang called on all with information that would facilitate investigations into the heinous act to feel free to inform the police.

He said the police could carry out their work effectively only if the public co-operated with them by giving them tip offs. Nana Agyemang expressed the hope that those who killed Mr Ennin would be found out eventually and be made to face the full rigours of the law.

Nana Agyemang expressed his condolences to the bereaved family, the inky fraternity and all lovers of press freedom. The late Mr Ennin was the News Editor of Ashh FM, a private radio station in Kumasi. In 1998, while working as a reporter with the Free Press, he was adjudged that year’s Best Environmental Reporter in the GJA annual awards.

A wife and two children survive Mr Ennin who was once served as the Editor of the Shaft FM at Obuasi. 16 Feb 07
