Former Hearts of Oak midfielder Salifu Ibrahim is close to completing an international switch to represent Benin after holding advanced talks with the country’s football authorities.
The talented playmaker, who currently plays for FC Drita in Kosovo, is said to have agreed to feature for the Squirrels following discussions with the Benin Football Federation (FBF).
Salifu’s family roots in Benin make him eligible to don the national colours, and reports indicate that head coach Gernot Rohr is eager to include him in his squad for the next international window.
The 24-year-old midfielder rose to prominence with Eleven Wonders before joining Hearts of Oak in 2021, where he played a key role in their Ghana Premier League title triumph. His technical ability, vision, and creative spark also helped FC Drita clinch the Kosovan league title, earning him admiration from scouts and national team selectors alike.
Benin, who recently qualified for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, have been drawn in a challenging Group D alongside Senegal, DR Congo, and Botswana.
If the switch is finalised, Salifu’s addition could provide Rohr’s side with much-needed creativity and experience as they prepare for the continental tournament.
For Salifu, the move represents both a new chapter and a return to his roots, a chance to make his mark on the international stage with the country of his heritage.
