Former DCE calls for retention of Kwaebibirem DCE

Kade, Mar. 6, GNA – A former Kwaebibirem District Chief Executive under the NDC administration, Mr Korankye Ababio and the Oseawuohene of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area, Osabarima Atwere Bediako II, have commended the Kwaebibirem District Chief Executive, Mr Yaw Yiadom-Boakye for his excellent performance.

They have, therefore, expressed the wish that President J.A. Kufuor would allow him another tenure to continue to render selfless and dedicated service to the district and the nation by re-appointing him to his position.

Speaking at a meeting of the District Assembly at Kade on Thursday, Mr Ababio said he had watched with admiration the performance of Mr Yiadom-Boakye and had come to the conclusion that the district’s best interest would be served by his retention.

Mr Ababio, who was the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) last but one DCE, said “it is only Mr Yiadom-Boakye, who had served in that capacity for nearly four years, in a district that had seen 11 district political heads since its creation in 1988.”

Mr Ababio, who served 29 months in office, happened to be the longest serving District Secretary/Chief Executive in both the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) and the NDC regimes. He also praised the NPP government for paying his salary arrears and end-of service benefits denied him by the NDC government when his services were terminated in December 1999.

Mr Ababio, who is an Assistant Director of Education at the West Akyem District Education Directorate, called for the completion of school structures and the district offices of the Ghana Education Service, which began during the NDC era.

He also stressed the need for the provision of more residential accommodation for teachers and improved working conditions to motivate teachers.

The Oseawuohyene, who recalled the frequent changes of DCEs, regretted that it had done the district more harm than good. Osabarima Atwere Bediako said he could confidently say that the chiefs and people in the district were “absolutely satisfied with the work being done by Mr Yiadom-Boakye and have absolute confidence in him.”
