Mr. Benjamin Asonaba Dapaah, a former Member of the Council of State has added his voice to calls for calm and unity in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to put the major opposition party in a good stead for victory in the 2016 polls.
He said the fury, intemperate language, hate speeches, and blame game sparked by the recent murder of Alhaji Mahama Adams, the party’s Upper East Regional Chairman, has thrown the party into a turmoil and is unhelpful to the progress and welfare of the party.
Mr. Asonaba-Dapaah, who is also a Founder Member of the NPP was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Kumasi on the developments in the party after the sad incident, which happened at Bolgatanga a week ago, said the “ugly noises” must stop immediately.
Visibly worried about the unfortunate developments in the party, he called for peace, tranquility and tolerance as the party leadership made efforts to find lasting solution to the issues.
He urged members to demonstrate unflinching loyalty, maturity, forgiveness and forbearance in “this trying moments” to move the party forward towards victory in 2016.
The former Council of State member called on all members of the party to close their ranks and unite to help deal with factionalism and rifts in the party.
“The party recognizes only Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo as the legitimate, elected flagbearer of the NNP and he is the only one we need to support to the end” he added.
Mr. Asonaba Dapaah said election of members was based on majority decision and so whatever the majority decides should be respected and accepted by all.
