Former CHRAJ boss proposes appointment procedure review

Former Chairman of CHRAJ, Justice Emile Francis Short has proposed the review of appointment procedures in the country.

Commenting on the passage of the Special Prosecutor Bill into an Act, Justice Emile Short said it is very critical to ensure the independence of the Special Prosecutor.

That is why it is important to use a by-partisan approach, roping in Civil Society Organizations and making it more participatory.

In a separate interview, Anti-Corruption Campaigner Vitus Azeem, says the appointment of a Special Prosecutor will not make any difference especially in the fight against corruption.

Vitus Azeem who is also Executive Director of Centre for Budget Advocacy, said looking at the appointment process the position is already compromised.

Speaking on GBC`s Current Affairs Program, “Behind The News”, Mr. Azeem said if the position was advertised it will help get a truly independent person to occupy that office.
