Begoro (E/R), Dec. 28, GNA- About 1,000 workers of the Oworobon South Forest Reserve re-afforestation programme in the Fanteakwa District have appealed to the government to expedite action on the payment of their salaries, which are in two months arrears.
A spokesman for the workers, Mr Kwasi Siaw, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Begoro on Friday, that all appeals to the Forestry Commission for their September and October salaries had proved futile. He said since they were employed to work in the degraded forest about a year ago, the authorities had paid them up to August this year.
Mr Siaw described as “flimsy” excuses given by the local authorities that the headquarters was yet to release funds for payment of the salaries and appealed to the government to be sensitive to their plight.
