Nkawkaw (E/R), Dec. 14, GNA- The Forest Services Commission and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) have organized a three-day workshop on grass cutter production for 45 farmers from the Atiwa and Kwahu South and West Districts.
The objective of the workshop is to assist the farmers to produce grass cutters on large scales for sale and consumption and to discourage hunting and trapping of games, which invariably caused bush fires and other activities resulting in the degradation of the forest reserves. The beneficiary communities along the forest reserves included Abomosu, Asunafo, Abene, Ntomem, Supriso, Subenso, Akadewaso, Aworosua and Amanfrom.
Addressing the participants, the Kwahu South District Manager of the Forestry Services Commission, Mr Joseph Osei, said the workshop was to ensure efficient production of grass cutters in order to earn extra income and ensure the sustainability of the forest reserve. Mr Osei advised them to make effective use of the training and put the knowledge acquired into good use.
The District Director of MOFA, Mr John Nketia Gyenfie, said bush fires and other poisonous substances used to trap grass cutters affect the fertility of the soil and health of the people.
