The Ashanti Regional office of the Forestry Commission warns of possible global warming if tree planting issue is not taken seriously in the Region.

The Regional Department expressed worry that the adverse effects of climate change is beginning to have a toll on the Region.

The phenomenon caused by increased carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has become a global concern.

The Forestry Commission indicated that the recent excessive heat that was experienced prior to the rains is a function of increased carbon deposits in the atmosphere.

The Commission appealed to residents of the Region to help conserve the environment and protect the remaining vegetation to slow down the effect.

The Deputy Ashanti Region Manager of the Commission Isaac Noble Eshun urged residents to plant trees in their small corners.

‘The rainfall pattern has changed drastically in Kumasi, it’s something which could be attributed to that phenomenon called climate change, when we expect rain it doesn’t come, the dry season was so hot that it was something unbearable, the harmattan was so severe, all these are attributes of climate change, in our on small way we can use tree planting to combat the effects of climate change. We can use trees to absorb the carbon dioxide, I will implore the public to take tree planting seriously and protect trees,’ he appealed.
