Foreign Minister attends AU Peace and Security Council session

Accra, May 23, GNA – Nana Akufo-Addo, Minister of Foreign Affairs left Accra on Sunday afternoon for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to attend the formal launch of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union (AU),which comes off on May 25 at the AU Conference Centre in Addis Ababa.

Officials of the Foreign Ministry accompanied the Minister. They will all return to Accra on May 26, 2004.

The First Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the AU members adopted the protocol relating to the establishment of the Peace and Security Council in Durba, South Africa on July 9, 2002. On December 26, 2003, the protocol entered into force following the deposit of the 27 instruments of ratification by the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Ghana at this year’s Ordinary Session was elected to serve a two-term on the Union’s Peace and Security Council.
