Footballer in court on drug charges

Innocent Annang, a Footballer, has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly possessing substances suspected to be cannabis.

Innocent was arrested with 16 wrappers of Indian hemp, narcotic drugs.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded into prison custody to reappear on November 15.

The facts as presented by Police Chief Superintendent Duuti Tuaruka are that at about 1000 hours on October 26, the Odorkor District Police Command organised an operation to arrest wee smokers and other suspected criminals within its area of responsibility.

He said during the exercise, the accused spotted the Police team and started running, so the team suspected something fishy and followed him till he was arrested.

Chief Superintendent Tuaruka said a search conducted in his room revealed 16 wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp wrapped in black polythene bag concealed under a cement block close to the front of his door.

He told the court that the exhibits were forwarded to the laboratory for analytical examination.
