Food vendors must be screened – Doctor

Reverend Dr Alex K. Appiah, President of GEWAH Group of Companies has called on district assemblies to organise health screening for food vendors in view of the wide spread communicable diseases in the country.

He said the hand washing after shaking of hands or return from public functions must be strictly adhere to.

Rev Appiah gave the advice in an interview with Ghana News Agency when his GEWAH Homoeopathy Hospital located at Top Base, near Weija in Accra climaxed a 10-day free health screening to his clients and non-clients.

He said the health screening is an offer that he gives to the people to coincide with his birthday every year.

The people were screened in all kinds of chronic diseases including infertility in men and women, sexual weakness, prostrate disorders, sexual transmitted illnesses and low sperm counts.

Rev Appiah also the Chief Executive Officer GEWAH Homoeopathy Hospital, is into health education, and has established GEWAH Pre-University and Nursing College to help vulnerable students with A1-E8 in six subjects; aggregate 24 or better for applicants with Secondary School Certificate Examination to train in Healthcare Grade One.

He said the nursing policy in Ghana is too cumbersome, explaining that students have to spend 10 to 15 years before they could qualify but if the educational authorities reduce the period of training it could help them.

Rev Appiah mentioned some of the courses which his university offers as Certificate in Healthcare – one year; Certificate in Healthcare (Clinical) – two years; Diploma in Nursing – three years.
