FOCOS receives award for leadership in orthopaedic healthcare delivery

FOCOS Orthopedic hospital has been awarded for its excellence in African healthcare innovation for musculoskeletal disorders & spine deformity.

FOCOS received the award at the just-ended African Governance & Corporate Leadership Forum, organized by the Institute for Governance Research Leadership and Technology, at the Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja, Nigeria on October 28th 2016.

Focos was honoured based on its immense contribution towards the delivery of high quality orthopedic health care in Africa, such as Clubfoot, Complex Spine Deformities, Joint Replacement, Research & Education as well as other degenerative spine disorders.

Receiving the award on behalf of FOCOS was Prof. Oheneba Boachie- Adjei, Founder and President of FOCOS and CEO and medical director of the hospital, who said, “I am very grateful to the Boards and staff of FOCOS Ghana and USA, who have guided the hospital & foundations operations over the years”.

He further stressed on the need for Africans to take advantage of seeking quality healthcare in their own continent, rather than going to other continents where reviews can be costly and also becomes problematic for follow up care.

“FOCOS’s mission is to bring optimal orthopedic care to Ghanaians, Africans and others from around the world, I have been very fortunate to work with some amazing people who have embraced the ideals of establishing a first class orthopedic care, which is second to none in the West Africa sub region,” Prof. Boachie-Adjei added.

African Governance & Corporate Leadership Forum is an annual flagship event that seeks to honour organizations that have demonstrated leadership in their industries. The theme for this year’s event was, “Patriotism & Nation Building”. This year’s event attracted achievers and luminaries across the continent.

FOCOS is one of the few specialist orthopedic hospitals in West Africa and also runs training programs for specialists. FOCOS was recently given accreditation to run residency programmes in anaesthesia and Orthopedics beginning with the 2016/2017 academic year, by the Boards of Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons (GCPS) and West Africa College of Surgeons (WACS).
