FMC commends Muslims for peaceful Ramadan

Accra, Nov. 12, GNA – The Federation of Muslim Council (FMC) in Ghana on Thursday commended the Muslim community on the unique and peaceful manner in which they approached this year’s Ramadan fasting. A statement issued in Accra and signed by Hajj Abdullah Showumi Williams commended the Hilaal Committee, which operates under the auspices of the National Chief Imam and the Ameer and Missionary in-charge of the Ahmadiya Muslim Mission for this success.

The FMC said there was more room for improvement and called on all stakeholders, especially Ahlus-Sunnah Wal Jamaa’a group who also have equally competent Islamic scholars to bury the hatchet and get on board to contribute their quota.

The statement noted that Islam, which is otherwise a peaceful religion, has been branded violent because of the irresponsible behaviour of a few Muslims thereby ridiculing the religion.

The FMC, by the statement, advised all Muslims to be mindful of the well-being of the religion and eschew arrogance, self-aggrandizement and other social vices to save the name of the religion. According to the statement as Muslims prepare to celebrate the Idul-Fitr, the next important of the religion’s duty was the Hajj Pilgrimage to Mecca, which is obligatory for Muslims, who can afford. The statement called on Muslims to work towards a peaceful elections during the forthcoming Parliamentary and Presidential elections.

The FMC called on political parties to exercise circumspection in their campaigns so as to avoid tendencies that may incite conflicts that may discredit the results of the polls.

The statement added: ” In fact some Muslims have been worse offenders of such circumstances but for a pittance or no gain. The FMC therefore, advice the Ghanaian Muslim community, especially those deeply involved in politics, to vehemently resist politicians who may take advantage of their shortcomings and attempt to exploit them”.
