Floods hit Wa East District

Wa, Aug 20, GNA – Some communities in the Wa East District have been cut-off from the regional capital, Wa, following heavy down pour in the area.

Portions of the Wa/Funsi/Kundungu road have been washed away. Mr Ernest Arthur, Upper West Regional Highway Director, told the Ghana News Agency in Wa that two bridges had their approaches washed away.

He said a bailey bridge on a river between Yala Number One and Kundungu had one of its pillars broken resulting in the collapse of the bridge.

Mr Arthur said a team from the Bridge Maintenance Unit of Ghana highway would arrive in the region to work on the bridge. Mr Dicson Gawu, Regional Manager of Metro Mass Transport, said a bus plying the area had been locked up for the past one week. 21 Aug 08
