Floods did not carry away my documents – Quaye

Sheikh I.C. Quaye, minister-designate for Greater Accra Region Sheikh, has vehemently denied having said to the Parliamentary Appointments Committee that his documents were washed away by flood.

He was talking to a handful of press people who followed his sympathisers to his official residence at North Ridge. He emphasised, “never did I say my documents were swept away by flood.

“I said in 1963 my house was demolished, I lost all my property and was detained for four years.”

The self-proclaimed, one of 45 Sheikhs throughout the Muslim world, appeared before the committee to be vetted on January 26, 2005.

He initially goofed in his Curricular Vitae (CV) stating that, he was a banker. He later admitted he never schooled as a banker. Asked whether he has certificates to back other areas he had stated in his CV, he answered in the affirmative, but explained fire had burnt them.

As a result, the Minority Leader who is the Ranking Member of the Committee requested for certificates of all nominees that had appeared before them for cross check with the institutions they claim they attended
