Flood renders 55 people homeless at Nkawkaw

Nkawkaw (E/R), July 16, GNA – Fifty-five people were rendered homeless at Nkawkaw Newtown (Moala), when the area got flooded following two days of torrential rain.

There were no casualties but the affected people are now putting up with friends and relatives.

The Kwahu West Municipal Assembly and National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), on Friday presented a number of relief items including mattresses, rice, cooking oil, rubber buckets, second hand clothes and mats to the victims.

Addressing the victims, the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Alex Obeng Somuah, advised the residents to avoid dumping refuse into the drains and assured them of the Assembly’s assistance to de-silt the drain during the dry season to avoid future occurrence.

The Deputy Municipal NADMO Co-ordinator, Mrs Rose Dei, advised the people to avoid building on water ways and urged the youth to undertake communal labour to de-silt the drains in the area.
