Five years for raping 10 year old girl in Spain

A spanish Provincial Court have sentenced a 29 year old man from Ghana to five years in prision for raping a 10 year old child. The attack happened in April 2008 in a locuturio in Roquetas del Mar, when the man attacked the child, who was the daughter of the woman who owned the long distance telephone shop. The man had entered the shop to make a phone call to his Ghanan home, and seeing the girl playing in the shop, invited her inside one of the secure phone booths where he proceeded to attack her.

The court found the man guilty on sexual abuse charges, although the public prosecutor had asked for a nine year sentence. The court also ordered that the man pay the girl’s family €25,000.

The defendent had previously declared that the confession had been “beaten” out of him by police officers, but medical examinations of the man did not lend creedence to the claims and the court dismissed the “fabrications”. Another man who was initially accused of the same crime by the defendent was acquitted on the testimony of the victim and after producing an alibi.
