Five workers of Greenland Hotel arrested for robbery

Agona Swedru, Aug 23, GNA – Five workers of Greenland Hotel at Agona Swedru are helping the police in their investigations into the alleged robbery of a lady who lodged in the hotel.

They are Hayford Amissah, receptionist, Adolf Essel, electrician, Peter Kumah, security man Ebo Williams, security man and Abraham Coffie, security man.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Mr Bernard H. Norgah, Deputy Commander of the Swedru District Police, told reporters on Monday that Ms Yvonne Adja-Codjoe, Human Resource Manager of the Cross Winds Logistics Mining Company, lodged in the hotel on August 20 and reported to the police that she had been robbed.

She alleged that the robbers, armed with a knife, entered her room through the window and made away with a laptop computer, a digital camera, two mobile phones and her bag contained personal effects.

She said there was no personal attack on her but looked on quietly in fear as her items were collected by the robbers.

ASP Norgah said the receptionist and the electrician were the first suspects to be arrested because they were the first persons who replaced a faulty bulb in the corridor of her room when Ms Adja-Codjoe complained of darkness at the place.

He said Essel who was supposed to be on duty during the night, disappeared after the robbery.

When Essel was arrested he told police that he went home to change his shoe and could not return.

The police expressed surprise that that Hotel, a first class facility, had been fenced and security was tight and that it would be difficult for an outsider to enter.

Ms Adja-Codjoe said she planned to institute court action against the Greenland Hotel management for negligence and porous security at the facility.
