Five rendered homeless at Half Assini by fire

Five people were on Monday rendered homeless and their properties estimated thousands of Ghana Cedis destroyed, when fire burnt down their buildings, built with local materials at Peace Town, a suburb of Half Assini.

Mr Anthony Entsuah, Half Assini Zonal Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency, said there were, however, no casualties.

Mr Entsuah said the victims were Eric Kokoah, Mary Ennu, Vincent Yaw, Frank Akesson and Nekle Akesso

He said their investigations revealed that a middle-aged woman Madam Nekle Akesson, a tenant, was cooking with Gas Cooker in the middle of her room at about 1600 hour when the Gas incidentally caught fire.

According to Mr Entsuah some neighbours who came to assist, found the door locked and before they could break it, the fire had spread to the other rooms.

He said this is the third domestic fire outbreak at Half Assini since the beginning of the year, and appealed to the residents to be careful when handling fire.
