Five people remanded in prison custody for causing damage to property

Sekondi, Feb.18, GNA – A Sekondi District Magistrate’s Court on Friday remanded five people in prison custody for allegedly causing damage and offensive conduct.

They are James Mia and Kofi Alima both farmers, Sulemana Nuhu, trader, Daniel Abu, a mechanic and Samuel Eleblay, a driver. The accused persons pleaded not guilty and would re-appear on February 23.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Andam Okyere said for sometime now, there had been a misunderstanding between Nana Addo Ndorendah V, Chief of Azullenloanu and the accused persons who were citizens of the town. He said at dawn on January 13, this year, the accused persons went to the chief’s palace and threw stones at the building causing damage to some of the asbestos roofing sheets.

Police Inspector Okyere said the accused persons also insulted and threatened the Chief and in the course of their disturbances, the Chief and one Tawiah opened their windows and saw the accused persons running away.

He said the Chief reported the incident to the Police the accused persons were arrested and after investigations charged with the offence.
