Five people appear before court for defaulting in water levy

Assin Foso(C/R), Jan. 31, GNA – Five people from Assin-Abasa Anto appeared before an Assin Foso Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for allegedly defaulting in the payment of a special monthly levy of 2,000.00 cedis for the maintenance of a pipe-borne water facility in the town. The pleas of Kweku Annan, Kwame Oduro, Kwesi Addae, Efia Pokuaa and Kojo Ayisi, were not taken and granted self-recognizance bail to re-appear on Tuesday, February 6.

The prosecution’s case was that sometime in 2005, the town’s unit committee instituted a monthly levy of 2,000 cedis to be paid by each resident towards the maintenance of the facility. It said the accused persons defaulted throughout last year owing about 120,000 cedis, and efforts to retrieve the arrears proved futile.
