Five feared dead in fatal accident

Five people are feared dead, when a saloon car suspected to be Tico cab burnt beyond recognition, in a fatal accident, which occurred at Pramposo on the Techiman-Kintampo highway at dawn on Thursday.

At the time of filing this report, the Techiman Police Command had not removed the charred bodies from the mangled tico cab trapped under one of the two tankers, which were involved in the accident.

The four occupants of the tankers, including the drivers, one at large, however escape unhurt in the accident which occurred around 2 pm.

When the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the accident scene, parts of the tankers, one carrying diesel and the other petrol, were burnt but personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were able to control the fire.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Andrews Kofi Okonengye, Techiman Municipal Police Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), told the GNA that the Police had not been able to identify the number of passengers on board the Tico.

He, however, added that a human skull was found trapped under one of the tankers sitting on the taxi cab.

ASP Okonengye said there would be a possible fire outbreak if attempt is made to pull off the tankers from the road, because they were leaking.

He said, according to an eyewitness, the Tico taxi was following one of the tankers and on reaching Pramposo, the police night escort team on the highway stopped the tanker, but the other tanker which was coming behind the Tico taxi ran over it and trapped it in the middle.

The taxi cab in the process caught fire, ASP Okonengye added.
