Five communities appeal for bridge to link them

Ekumfi-Amissano (C/R), Jan. 7, GNA- Five farming communities in the Mfantseman District of the Central Region have appealed to the government and the District Assembly to help construct a bridge over river Amisakye to link them with Ekumfi-Suprudo.

They are Ekumfi-Amissano, Ekumfi Suprudo, Asaafa, Edumafa and Attelia.

Supi Nana Kwame Essuon Agyenkwa who made the appeal at an annual Ayerye festival of the chiefs and people of the area, said transportation of salt, fish, and vegetables, produced in the area had to be conveyed by canoes to marketing centres.

He said sometime in 1998 an NGO decided to construct a footbridge on the river but it was washed away by the river.

He said that since then the people have been through self-help tried to use local materials to make some walkway but this did not last for long.
