Five candidates returned unopposed for GJA national executive positions

Accra, June 24, GNA – Five candidates who filed their papers to contest for national executive positions of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) have been returned unopposed, according to a statement released by the GJA Elections Committee in Accra on Wednesday. The statement was signed by Mr Benedict Assorow, Chairman, Mrs Betty Apau-Opong, Member and Mr Mawusi Afele Member. The statement said at the close of nominations on Wednesday, June 24, Mr Ranford Tetteh, Editor of the Daily Graphic, was returned unopposed as President.

Mr Affail Monney, Head of News, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Mr Bright Kwame Blewu, a freelance journalist and Mr Dave Agbenu, Chief Reporter, New Times Corporation, were also returned unopposed as Vice President, General Secretary and Organising Secretary respectively. Mr Mathias Tibu, Assistant Registrar (Publications) Ghana Institute of Journalism, was returned unopposed as the new Public Affairs Manager. The statement said members of the GJA will therefore go to the polls on July 9, 2009 to elect a Treasurer. The candidates will be Mrs Esi Asante, a freelance journalist and Mrs Linda Asante-Agyei, Senior reporter, Ghana News Agency.
