Five arrested for drug trafficking at KIA

Accra, June 3, GNA – Security Personnel at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) has arrested four foreigners and a Ghanaian student for attempting to smuggle narcotic drugs out of the country.

They are Henry Nkrumah, 48, Moulawa Kilou, 38, Ouma Ron, 38, Tony Ajuonwucheqwa, 41, Simon Darko Poku, 34, and Samuel Agyekum, 28, a student.

Security Officials at KIA said Henry Nkrumah, travelling on an American passport, had concealed about 1,047 grams of cocaine in the soles of his shoes.

Kilou, believed to be of Togolese origin but travelling on a Dutch passport, had swallowed 15 pellets of cocaine, which was detected after he was taken through medical examination.

Ajuonwucheqwu, believed to be of Nigerian origin but travelling on a British passport, had swallowed 60 pellets believed to be cocaine, while Darko Poku of Ghanaian origin travelling on a Canadian passport, also concealed 842 grams of heroin in the soles of his shoes. Agyekum, a student of Academy of Business Administration based in Kumasi, had also concealed 848 grams of cocaine in the soles of his shoes.

The Security Officials said they were conducting further investigations after which the suspects would be put before court.
