Fitter jailed 24 months for fraud

Sekondi, June 13, GNA- A district magistrate’s court at Sekondi, on Friday sentenced Ahmed Issah, a fitter, to 24 months imprisonment in hard labour for selling a cake of soap as a mobile phone to an unsuspecting customer.

Issah pleaded guilty to the charge of fraud.

Police Sergeant Victor Amenorpe, told the court that on May 30 this year, the complainant, Victor Adikah, a driver at the British-America Tobacco Company in Takoradi, met the accused at the premises of the company.

Sgt Amenorpe said Adikah paid 300,000 cedis to the accused, who offered to sell a Nokia 1100 mobile phone to him (complainant).

The prosecutor said Adikah was in a hurry to report for duty so he asked one Klutse to collect the phone on his behalf.

Sgt Amenorpe said when the complainant opened a wrap up object Klutse took from the accused person, he (complainant) detected that it contained a cake of soap of the same size as a Nokia mobile phone. Sgt Amenorpe said on June 1, this year, Issah arrested the accused and handed him over to the police, when he (accused) again went to the premises of the company.

The prosecutor said the Issah admitted in his statement to the police that he had committed the offence.
