Fishmonger struck to death by thunder

Akuse (E/R), Oct. 5, GNA – A 46-year-old fishmonger, Norgbedzi Baby was struck by thunder to death, while riding on a bicycle to Aveyime, near Bator, in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region last Thursday.

The body had been deposited at the Akuse Government Hospital for autopsy.

A family source told the Ghana News Agency at Akuse that Baby, who had gone to buy fish from fishermen along the Volta River, was returning home to Aveyime on foot when she decided to visit her boyfriend, one Osumanu Djidu at Tokpo village.

The source said, since it was getting dark, Baby asked Djidu to allow her use his bicycle to ride back home, which he obliged. The source said while on her way, there was a heavy rainstorm during which Baby met her untimely fate.

Another family source told the GNA that they suspected that their sister might have been a victim of a curse following a recent cow theft by a syndicate in which she and Djidu were arrested for interrogation. According to her, in the course of police investigations, they were granted bail and the owner had since not been happy about the delay in their trial.
