A 29-year old farmer, James Asmah, has been remanded into prison custody by a Circuit Court in Cape Coast for allegedly raping a 16-year old student.
He pleaded not guilty and would reappear on October 5.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Charles Anku told the court presided over by Mrs Florence Kai Otu that the accused person and the victim live in the same house at Komenda.
He said on the evening of Wednesday, September 19, the victim returned from the bathroom when Asmah entered her room unannounced and asked her if she had a boyfriend, and she said no.
He then began making advances towards her but when he noticed that she would not succumb he dragged her unto the bed and forcibly had sex with her.
Chief Inspector Anku said on Sunday, September 23, the victim told her sister’s friend about the incident who in turn informed the victim’s sister and a report was made at the Komenda Police station leading to the arrest of Asmah.
The girl was issued a medical form to attend hospital, which was endorsed by medical officers who confirmed that the victim had been sexually assaulted.
Chief Inspector Anku prayed the court to remand Asmah in order to enable prosecution forward the docket to the Attorney-General’s office for advice.
