Fisherman fined for assault

The Winneba District Magistrate has sentenced Mawuwarga Afedz, a 20 year-old fisherman to a fine of 240.00 Ghana Cedis or in default serve a six months imprisonment in hard labour for assaulting a fishmonger at Akosua Village in Effutu Municipality.

The court also asked him to sign a bond to be of good behavior for six month.

Prosecuting Police Sargent, Peter Agbelie, told the court presided by Charles Owusu Nsiah that the complainant is a fishmonger who lives at Akosua Village while the accused person also lives in the same area.

The prosecution said on 6th December, 2014 a misunderstanding ensued between the complainant and the sister-in-law of the accused, which was later resolved.

Sgt. Agbelie said Mawuwarga Afedzi on hearing the matter went to the complainant’s house and confronted her.

According to the prosecution, in an attempt to explain the matter to the accused person, he pounded on the complainant and assaulted her.

The prosecution said the matter was reported to the police and the accused was arrested.
