First Lady leaves for UNESCO Summit

First Lady Dr. Mrs Ernestina Naadu Mills left Accra on Tuesday night for Maryland, United States, to attend the UNESCO First Ladies’ Youth Infusion Summit scheduled for June 29-30.

The summit, organised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will bring together First Ladies from Ghana, Senegal, Liberia, Nigeria, Benin, Ethiopia, The Gambia, Kenya and Sierra Leone to meet with the next generation leaders from the ages of 16-25.

Mrs Mills and her colleagues would be discussing issues including the various countries’ needs and hear the concerns and creative solutions that this generation of young leaders have and to see how they may assist each country.

She would highlight some of her efforts aimed at promoting education in Ghana, especially girl-child education.

A Youth Expo will exhibit creative technologies, solutions and entrepreneurial ideas of the young adults which should stimulate economic growth, assist in health and agricultural initiatives, as well as media, arts and entertainment.

Each young exhibitor’s information will be an idea or technology that can be immediately implemented in many of the countries the First Ladies represent.

Mrs Mills and her delegation of youth leaders were seen off by President John Evans Atta Mills and some officials from the First Lady’s Office.

They are expected back home on Wednesday, July 4.**
