First Lady: Keep clean environments to avoid Ebola

The First Lady, Lordina Mahama, has urged Ghanaians to practice healthy living in order to avoid an outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus in the country.

According to the first lady, the disease although deadly, can be avoided if people kept cleaner environments.

The disease, which is already prevalent in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Nigeria, has killed over 1,200 people, since February this year.

The terrifying scale of the outbreak informed a decision by the World Health Organization to approve the use of untested drugs including the zMapp.

Addressing a gathering in the Volta region during a donation exercise, Mrs Mahama said her office is liaising with the relevant government agencies to help fight the cholera outbreak in Accra and some parts of the Volta region.

The first lady, through her foundation, the Lordina Foundation, also donated medical equipment running into millions of Cedis to some district hospitals, including the Keta Krachi district hospital in the Volta region.
