First Lady calls for support for women

Dormaa Ahenkro, May 11, GNA – Mrs Theresa Kufuor, the First Lady, has called on Ghanaians to give women the necessary material and moral support to enhance their self-sufficiency. She was speaking to women at Dormaa Ahenkro where she launched a soap-making project to train of some women most of whom had lost their children and husbands to HIV/AIDS.

Mother and Child Foundation, the non-governmental organisation Mrs Kufuor founded, is to train the women after which they would be handed over to Redemption Care International, a Christian NGO, for management and supervision.

The First Lady acknowledged the unique role that women play in the advancement of society and affirmed her NGO’s support for women who demonstrate vision, foresight and initiative. Nana Yaa Abrafi Bonsu, the Executive Director of Redemption Care International, said her organization had over the past three years busied itself with addressing basic problems confronting the vulnerable in the Dormaa District.

She commended Mrs Kufour for the sponsorship and assured her that beneficiaries of the soap-making project would be assisted to engage in viable income-generating activities. 11 May 05
