First anniversary of Prez Mills’ death begins today

A week-long activity to mark the one year anniversary of the death of President John Evans Atta Mills begins today (Sunday, July 21).

President Mills died at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra on July 24 last year, three days after marking his 68th birthday.

Mills’ anniversary planning committee spokesperson, Kofi Nyantekyi, told Joy News that it is just prudent to mark the one year anniversary on the day of his birthday.

“During his lifetime, on his birthday, he actually gave donations and gifts to orphanages. That will be done on the 21st. At 3pm, there is going to be a coral concert at the National Theatre and this will mark the 69th birthday of the late president Prof John Evans Atta Mills. Subsequently other programs will follow,” he said.

“What informed the decision to start from the 21st was that Prof Mills actually passed on to eternal glory about three days after his 68th birthday and that is the reason why we opted to start the program on his 69th birthday,” Kofi Nyantekyi added.
