Accra, July 5, GNA- The Deputy Chief Fire Officer of the Ghana National Service, Mr A. B. Gaisie, at the weekend stressed that successful prevention of fire outbreaks would boost the “Golden Age of Business”.
He therefore commended management of the Reverend John Teye Memorial Institute in Accra for establishing a Fire Fighting Cadet Corps.
In an interview with the GNA after inaugurating the Cadet Corps, the first to be established in a second cycle institution, Mr Gaisie expressed the hope that it would supplement efforts of the National Fire Service in fire fighting and prevention.
He said the fire-training programme introduced at the John Teye Memorial Institute located at Ofankor in Accra should enable the cadets to sensitise people in the area on the dangers of fire outbreaks, the cost to national economy and the need to prevent them.
The Deputy Chief Fire Officer urged other second cycle schools to establish fire-fighting corps.
Mr Lawrence Otutey John-Teye, Director of the Institute, noted that everything possible would be done to maintain the corps as a model. He said a course in fire fighting would be introduced at the Institute from the next academic year.
