Fire outbreak destroys property at Apremdo market

Apremdo(WR), Oct. 02, GNA – A fire outbreak at Apremdo market on the night of last Sunday destroyed property estimated at about 60,000 Ghana cedis.

Items destroyed included wax prints, sewing machines, cooking utensils, artificial hair weave-on, vegetables, provisions, jewellery and foodstuffs.

Mr Joseph Tamakloe, Assistant Divisional Officer of Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), told Ghana News Agency that cause of the fire was not known and it took personnel of the service from Sekondi, Agona Nkwanta and Takoradi Air Force Station an hour to put out the fire and there was no injury or casualty.

However, he advised traders to avoid the use of naked fire and cooking at markets.

Mr John Eshun, Senior Revenue Superintendent of Shama-Ahanta East Metropolitan Assembly (SAEMA), said 120 stalls were burnt. He said byelaws of the assembly should be enforced to stop cooking at markets.
