Fire outbreak cause of erratic outages – GRIDCo

The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) is hoping to restore power in some parts of Accra and Tema after a fire outbreak at its Control Room in Tema led to erratic outages Friday.

Some areas in Tema have been hit by blackouts while certain parts of Accra are experiencing low current with some running on generator sets.

According to GRIDCo, it hopes to restore full services after mid-day Friday.

“There has been a cable fault in the basement of GRIDCo’s Volta Control Room resulting in a disruption to the system, consequently supply to most parts of Tema have been affected,” a statement from GRIDCO spokesperson Eric Koduah said.

“Engineers of GRIDCo are working around the clock to resolve the challenge and ultimately restore power to the affected areas.”
