Fire Officer and another in court for possessing cannabis

Accra July 15, GNA – Two persons, who were arrested by the Police during an anti-drug operation in the Accra Metropolis have been put before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly possessing quantities of cannabis.

Annan Mensah, Trader, was arrested with six parcels of cannabis while Nii Annan Lomotey, a personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service, was arrested with seeds of cannabis and 124 parcels of cannabis. They have pleaded not guilty to possessing narcotic drugs before the Court presided over by Mr Justice Kwadwo Owusu, who is sitting with additional responsibility as a Circuit Court Judge.

The Court admitted Mensah to 10 million cedis bail with a surety while Lomotey was also admitted to 30 million cedis bail with a surety. They are to reappear on July 28.

The Prosecution said on June 18 personnel of the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on embarked on an anti-drug operation in the Accra Metropolis.

During the operation the Police went to the house of Mensah and during a search they found six parcels of cannabis and he mentioned Lomotey as his source of supply.

Mensah led the Police to La, in Accra and he identified Lomotey. The Police found the seeds and dry leaves suspected to be cannabis in a black polythene bag and 124 parcels of cannabis wrapped in a bag under Lomotey’s bed.

The leaves have since been sent to the Police Forensic Laboratory for examination.
